This is a zine representing the podcast On Being with Krista Tippett episode Mary Oliver “I got saved by the beauty of the world”.
THE QUESTION
How can I create a visual experience out of something originally designed to be heard?
THE GOAL
To create a visual experience that expresses the intimacy of the conversation, as well as represents Mary Oliver and her life’s work discussed
THE SOLUTION
This zine is a journey throughout the pages as the reader explores the conversation. Utilizing hand-sketched illustrations and hand-written poems when they appear in the conversation, I wanted the reader to feel like they were jumping in and out of Mary Oliver’s notebook. Her most popular poem Wild Geese is the opening page of the zine so I chose to draw illustrations of a geese taking off and landing as the conversation takes off and eventually comes to an end.
